Tools you need:

• Replacement Flush Valve
• Channel-locking Pliers
• Adjustable Wrench
• Replacement Flusher
• Sponge
• Towels
• Bucket
• Penetrating Oil
• Large Slotted Screwdriver
• Plumber’s Wrench

Step 1: Disable the Water Supply

First, remove the lid from your toilet tank, this will allow you to disable the water supply. This is done by turning the shut-off valve clockwise. Make sure to hold the flush lever down to drain as much water as possible out of the tank. Then use a sponge or towel to get rid of any remaining water.

Step 2: Disconnect Toilet Attachments

Now you need to disconnect the water supply tube or hose from the tank, the refill tube that is attached to the top of the overflow pipe and the flapper chain from the tank lever arm. Apply penetrating oil to the bolts underneath the tank and unscrew them till the tank detaches from the bowl.

Step 3: The Tank

Next using an adjustable wrench to loosen and eventually remove the tank bolts. You will now be able to lift the tank from the bowl and by placing it to one side it will be easier to work on. Then using a plumber’s wrench, unscrew the lock nut which is holding the flush valve to the tank and remove it.

Step 4: The New Flush

Following the manufacturer instructions install the new flush valve in the same way you removed the old one. Once this is done use tank bolts to attach the tank back to the bowl, the flapper chain to the flush level arm and the fill tube to the new overflow pipe.

Step 5: Reconnect the Water Supply

All that is left to do is reconnect the water supply to the tank. Then turn the water back on and test your new flush valve. Make sure to check for leaks.

Has your shower head become clogged with minerals meaning some jets do not flow. Save yourself some money, instead of buying a new shower head, follow these simple steps to unclog it and make it work like new again.

Step 1: Using a scrubber sponge wipe away as much dry debris from the shower holes as possible.

Step 2: Take a plastic bag and fill it with a solution of equal amounts of white vinegar and water. You need about 1 cup of this solution in the bag.

Step 3: Tie the plastic bag around the shower head with a elastic band. Make sure the holes are immersed in the liquid and the bag is fully secured.

Step 4: Leave it to soak for around 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Finally remove the bag and wipe the shower head. Turn on the shower and run hot water through it. Your shower should now be as good as new. If some are still blocked place it back in the liquid for longer.

Equipment You’ll Need:

• Electric Drill
• Masking Tape
• Water
• Wall Anchors
• Carbide-tipped masonry drill bit or diamond tipped drill bit
• Wood
• Regular Drill Bit

Step 1 – Choose the Drill Bit

Since the surface of the tile is too hard for regular drill bits you will need to pick one of two common drill bits which are recommended for this task. One option is the carbide-tipped masonry drill bit, which are widely known for drilling into tile. Designed to be able to drill through rock-hard surfaces, with patience and care you should be able to drill through without causing the tile to crack or break. The other option which is more expensive, is using the diamond-tipped drill bits. These are even more durable and will not burn out as easily as masonry bits.

Step 2 – Break through the outer surface

Tiles are made to be strong since they have to withstand a lot of abuse, this makes them resistant to drilling. This makes it hard to keep the drill in place when starting to drill as the bit tends to skip around on the surface instead of biting into the tile. One way to stop this from happening is to mark an “X” where you want to drill using masking tape. The tape should give the drill bit the necessary surface traction needed to break through the tiles glazed outer surface.

Step 3 – Boring through the tile

Now you have broken through the outer surface of the tile it’s all about patience. Start drilling on low speed, then gradually increase the speed as appropriate. Apply constant pressure, not too much as you will break the tile rather than drilling into it. Make sure you keep the drill bit lubricated and that it doesn’t overheat. A quick and easy way of doing this is by pausing periodically to spray the drill with water. This will help to keep it both lubricated and cool.

Step 4 – Behind the Tile

Now you are through the tile, the rest should be smooth drilling through the wall board or mounting surface. Make sure to decrease the speed and pressure to finish the hole through the wall board. Once your through insert the appropriate wall plug so that your able to screw into the wall. Your hole is now complete.
